The noise about tungsten wedding rings for men is they’re virtually indestructible. They don’t bend, break, scuff, or tarnish… so they say. I would never “try” to prove this claim with my wedding ring, but I did nonetheless.
It was the infamous snow ball fight of 20-09. My in-laws were visiting for Christmas when my younger brother-in-law ambushed me with a snow ball. Of course that meant war. Everyone got into the action, and when it was all over, I was cold, bruised, and ringless.
We scoured the front yard and the street, but couldn’t find it anywhere. When the snow melted I looked again, but there were no tungsten wedding rings to be found. I figured a squirrel or some passerby had claimed it sometime along the line. So I got a cheap silver alloy replacement since tungsten carbide rings for men aren’t cheap.
Late that spring, the lawn was ready for a first mowing. Half way through cutting the front lawn I heard a loud “ping” and saw something shiny buzz into a shrub from under my lawn mower. I ran over to see what it was. It didn’t take me long this time to find my wedding ring. And the most shocking part was that it looked like new.
There was next to no evidence of the encounter with my lawnmower blade and nothing of the months sitting in the snow and mud. The finish was still beautiful and scuff-free.
Not everything you read is true — especially when it comes to claims of “indestructibility”. But I’m convinced tungsten wedding rings for men are as close to indestructible as you will find. I don’t recommend trying to beat up your wedding ring, if for no other reason than because it’s a bad metaphor. But if you’re looking for a ring that will stand up to some rough incidental treatment, I recommend tungsten carbide.
